JFC Semi Final The Downs 1-10Tubberclare 1-13
Our championship run came to an end on Saturday evening last when we had to give way to a marginally better Tubberclare side.
The Downs played against a stiff breeze in the first half and were unlucky not have been much closer at the break after failing to convert two good goal opportunities. However we trailed by five points at the break on a score line of 0 4 to 1-7.
The Downs fell further behind early in the second half when Tubberclare added four unanswered points to lead by nine points after thirty six minutes. The Downs rallied at this stage and added 1-5 to reduce the margin to two points by the fifty second minute. The game was in the melting pot at this stage but try as they might The Downs couldn’t get that elusive score to take the lead and it was Tubberclare who finished the scoring with a point on sixty two minutes to run out deserving winners on a score line of 1-13 to 1-10.
Well done to oursquad and mentorsfor their efforts during the year and a special word of thanks to our medic Trudy Rowan for her assistance at all our games.

U/17 ChampionshipSemi –Final-The Downs4-20, St. Marys/Milltownpass 0 -5.
On Sunday morning last The Downs hosted St. Marys/Milltownpass in a sun drenched Kevin Molloy Park, in the semi- final of the championship.
The Downs played into the wind in the first half and were under pressure in the early exchanges when the amalgamation side scored a nicely taken point within a minute. The Downs settled into their rhythm but were wide of the mark in their early attempts. They eventually found their range in the tenth minute with a well taken point which was quickly followed by a goal and a point. The Downs were awarded a penalty in the thirteenth minute of the half which Alan Colgan duly dispatched to the net to bring his goal tally to two. St. Marys/,Milltownpass replied with a point. The Downs were playing well at this stage and added three points to lead at the break on a scoreline of 2-5 to 0 -2.
On the resumption and with wind advantageThe Downs continued to dominate and added another goal after five minutes. The Downs continuedto tack on points and added another goal in injury time to run out winners on a score line of 4-20to 0-5.
We now play Tubberclare in the final, time and date to be confirmed.
