Cusack Park was the venue for the U12 League Finals this week. This new initiative rolled out by the county board was very warmly welcomed by clubs with 17 finals being played over the June Bank Holiday weekend. The Downs had the honour of playing the first game and the last game with 37 boys having the opportunity to play in Cusack Park. The amber team opened proceedings with a tough assignment against a strong Killucan side however the lads never gave up and did themselves and their clubs proud particularly in the second half.
The black team took on St. Lomans Blues in the penultimate game of the finals. In an enthralling game of end to end football The Downs were very unlucky to lose out to their near neighbours with very little between the teams at the final whistle. Congratulations to all our players and coaches on a magnificent performance.
Our U8’s and U10’s were on the road to Kilbeggan on Saturday morning in their most recent Go Games. Yet again both squads turned in terrific performances on the day against tough opposition from both Kilbeggan and Athlone. Thanks to Kilbeggan GAA club for hosting superbly as usual.
LGFA Results
Our U12’s played Mullingar Shamrock’s on Tuesday evening in a blustery Molloy Park. It was fantastic to see both teams able to field two teams at this age group. Well done to all. Many thanks to our two young referees Luke Jackson and Sean Corroon on a great evening’s work.
Both our U14 teams were in action this week. Our Division 1 side were away to Mullingar Shamrocks. The home side were in flying form and overcame our girls with relative ease. Our Division 4 side travelled to Bunbrosna on Saturday afternoon overcoming a tenacious Clann Gaels side. Bunbrosna GAA pitch and facilities looking fantastic in the sunshine. Club Shop
