Shay Murtagh SFC Final

We live to fight another day in this year’s Shay Murtagh Senior Football Championship final after an epic battle with our near neighbours St. Lomans last Sunday in TEG Cusack Park. A point between the sides at half time and nothing between them at the full time whistle means that both teams will re-group and go at it again to decide this year’s Flanagan Cup recipient for 2024. Final score 1-13 a-piece. The replay will be next weekend with details all to be confirmed later in the week. Please see match report elsewhere in paper.

Minor Div 2 Semi-final

Our minor lads continued their fine championship form with a hard fought victory over Shandonagh on Wednesday night in The Downs. The lads produced an excellent 1st half performance scoring 1-7 of that tally from play. An early goal from Aaron Connaire set the tone and a good spread of points followed throughout the half from Darragh Kenny, Luke Meyler, Michael Moloney, Eoin Mullin, Jack Murtagh and Darragh Smith. At the back our defenders kept it really tight to give us the advantage of a HT score of 1-8 to 0-2. The 2nd half saw the expected response from a strong and competitive Shandonagh team. They managed to narrow the gap, mostly through frees, to the minimum of one point with less than ten minutes to go in a gripping contest. However, our boys had found their rhythm again from the mid-point in the 2nd half. They were not initially rewarded with the scores for some great team play. However, they maintained both high performance and focus levels to the final whistle, adding the scores to seal victory through the boots of Eoin Mullin, Michael Moloney and Darragh Kenny. The game finished on a score line of 1-12 to 0-12. The boys are now looking forward to their county final. NaDúntaAbú

U14 Div 5 Shield Winners

The U14 Amber team put in a magnificent performance on Saturday evening last in a magnificent Ballynacarrigy GAA grounds against Caulry GAA. The first half was a very even affair with little or nothing between the two sides however the Downs dominated the second half with some fabulous team moves to confirm the win against a spirited Caulry side. The shield was accepted by captain James Kenna who also spoke very well. This was a nice end to the year for these lads who had some great performances during the season. Final score The Downs 2-13 Caulry 1-03. Well done to coaches Cahal Kelly, Eddie Quinlan, Kieran Carroll, Michael Clarke, Lane Orme, Jasper Rijksen and Tommy Coyne.
