Easter Camp

The Downs GAA Club ran a very successful Easter camp last Thursday and Friday for all the children in the locality. Many thanks to all our wonderful volunteers young and not so young. Special mention to Paddy Kenny and Bernie Corroon for all their organisation and Luke Loughlin for delivering Easter eggs to all the participants.

Underage Round-up

The U8’s had record numbers at their Go Gmaes blitz in St. Mary’s Rochfortbridge on Saturday morning last. Their opposition was St. Mary’s, Lilliput and Ballycomoyle. Some great scores on show and all the basic skills improving.

Both U12 squads were in action against St. Lomans (amber) and Moate (blacks). Both teams performed excellently despite the terrible weather conditions.

Both U14 squads were in action Wednesday (Division 1) and Friday (Division 5). The Division 1 side had a fiercely competitive game at home to Athlone on Wednesday evening with only a solitary point between the two sides at the final whistle in favour of the home team. The Division 5 team defeated Delvin on Saturday evening in comprehensive fashion at home in Breedon Molloy Park.

The U16’s had an impressive outing versus Shandonagh away on Monday evening with a 5-22 to 3-11 win in the league. Well done to all.

The minors were defeated by St. Lomans on Friday evening away from home. Final score: The Downs 0-06 St. Lomans 1-08

LGFA Round-up

The Division 3 LGFA team were overcome by a strong Tyrellspass side on Friday evening last. Hard luck to all.

The U14 girls had a good win against Garrycastle on Thursday evening at home.

The U15 girls travelled to Athlone on Saturday afternoon to contest the Division 1 Féile. They opened their campaign with a good win against Athlone. Caulry and Goldsmiths were the other opposition and despite their best efforts the girls came out second best to both teams. The girls competed very well at the Division 1 level and can be very proud of their efforts. Many thanks to Athlone for hosting the event so professionally. A great day was had by all.

Scór Sinsir

Hard luck to our Rince Seit who reached the All Ireland Scór final in Castlebar. A brilliant achievement to get to an All-Ireland Final – unfortunately it wasn’t to be. The Downs were represented by Darren Nolan,Cian Colgan, Shane Murray,Pat Leavy,Ursula Carley,Orlaith Murray, Anna Fallon and Aoife Carley the very best of luck in Caslebar. Thanks to Kenny Colgan, who sponsored tops for the big day.
