The senior team continued their winning ways with a comprehensive win over Tyrellspass GAA in TEG Cusack Park last Saturday evening. After a slow start, The Downs eventually kicked into gear outscoring their opponents by 1-05 to 0-00 at half-time. The second half was much better from The Downs with a final tally of 4-12 to 0-07 at the finish. That makes it two out of two for the seniors in this years’ championship.
On Sunday morning our neighbours Killucan provided the opposition in Breedon Molloy Park for Round 2 of the JFC. The Downs started the game playing against the strong breeze however opened the scoring with a quick response from Killucan. The Downs then hit 5 on the bounce to lead 0-6 to 0-1 with 25 minutes played. Killucan started to gain some momentum and a couple of scores from play and 2 pointer free from Gavin Flood brought them back to within 1. The Downs bounced back getting the final two scores of the half to lead at the halftime interval on a score line of 0-8 to 0-5. Aided by the breeze, The Downs started strongly in the second period and dominated the second half throughout. With some brilliant scoring on view as well as some terrific defending from the team The Downs ran out comfortable winners in this junior football clash on a score line of Na Dunta 0-24 Killucan 0-8. Next up in Round 3 is St Lomans away on Friday 22nd of August.

The U20’s unfortunately lost out to Lilliput away from home on Tuesday evening on a score-line of 1-15 to 4-09. The management team of Trevor Fitzpatrick, Joe Daly and Alan Mooney however still qualify for a quarter final in a fortnight’s time with details to be confirmed.
LGFA
The Downs Ladies reached a club milestone last Sunday fielding a second team in the Championship for the first time in the club's history. Our junior ladies took to the field against a strong Miltownpass side in Breedon Molloy Park, with a number of players making their debut at adult championship level. The result didn't go our way on the evening, but it marks a great achievement for the club. Well done to all.
The senior team are in action in Round 2 of the championship when they take on Milltown GAA this Thursday 14th at 7pm at home. They will be hoping to improve on their defeat to St. Lomans in the first round last week. Best of luck to all involved.
