Men’s Round 5 League Fixtures Weekend 31/03/23

Friday March 31st: Division 1 The Downs V St. Lomans (Away) 8 p.m.

Friday March 31st: Division 4 The Downs V St. Lomans (Home) 8 p.m.

Sunday April 2nd: Division 3 The Downs V St. Lomans (Home) 11.30 a.m.

League Results

Monday evening took the Division 3 side to Moate to contest Moate All Whites in Round 4 of the league. The goals made the difference on the night in a very competitive match hosted in Moate Community College under lights. It was great to see some of our younger players making steps in adult football despite the loss. Final score was Moate 2-06 to 0-10.

Scór na nÓg

Bumper evening for Na Dúnta at Scór na nÓg County Final.The Downs had a hugely successful day as they hosted the Scór na nÓg County Final this Sunday. Alanna Corroon took home the John Cowley trophy for her recitation performance, while Emma Conneely put in a brilliant performance of The Guard. Conor Cleary, Aaron Connaire , Padraig Monaghan & Oisín McGrath took first place in Tráth na gCeisteanna, Pat Leavy having left no stone unturned. The Novelty Act faced stiff competition, however, Na Dunta troop of Aidan Tuite, Aidan Quinlan, Grace O'Neill, Senan O'Neill, Orla O'Connell, Sophie Moore, Darragh Colgan & Sean Corroon really got the crowd going to win first place. The Downs Set Dancers Aaron Connaire, Orla Rijksen, Leah Bardon, Billy Carroll, Bailey Shiels, Sean Flynn, Conor Cleary & Ellen Connaire raised the roof with their brilliant performance to take the Moira Bardon Cup once again. Speedy recovery to Taylor Shiels who was missed today from Ceol Uirlise with the group putting in a great performance. Other winners on the night were Rince Foirne –Delvin Ámhránaíocht Aonair Ballinagore Bailéad Ghrúpa Moate All Whites Cool Uirlise Bunbrosna Best all girls set Bunbrosna. Na Dúnta took home the Tom McHale Shield once again for club of the year. The Leinster Semi Final takes place next Sunday April 2nd at 2pm in the Downs where Westmeath, Longford, Offaly, Louth, Meath and Kilkenny compete for a place in the Leinster Final

Congratulations

Congratulations to Damien Gavin and the Westmeath U20’s on their fantastic win against defending Leinster champions Kildare earlier this week, especially our own panellists Lorcan Mullen and Senan O’Driscoll.

Easter Camp

We are delighted to announce our Easter Camp here at the The Downs GAA Club. Taking place on Wednesday/Thursday 12th/13th April for boys and girls from junior infants up to 6th class. You can register online at www.thedownsgaa.ie or directly from ClubZap. Many thanks to all the volunteers for making this possible. Cost is €25 for one child, €40 for two €55 for three and €70 for four. Registration is now open.

Healthy Clubs Initiative

Great to see another of our Healthy Clubs initiatives being rolled out this week with the introduction of healthy snacks for all our underage players post training. Well done to Olivia Corcoran, Paddy Kenny and Trudi Rowan for making this happen.

Bingo continues every Friday night at 8.30 p.m. All new members welcome.

The Clubhouse bar is open on Fridays and Saturdays nights.
