Croke Park for our U11’s

The U11’s had the wonderful experience of playing on the hallowed turf of Croke Park on Thursday of this week in the Play and Stay Go Games initiative rolled out by Leinster GAA. The Downs had 29 boys togged out with 2 teams playing against 2 teams from Castletown of Wexford. There was an outstanding exhibition of football from our lads with numerous points, goals, blocks, saves and ferocious tackling on display from all involved that made all the parents and mentors that attended very proud. Many thanks to Bernie Corroon and Ciarán McCormack in particular for orchestrating the event and to all the mentors, bag carriers, parents and family members for supporting the lads on the day. A day that will live long in the memory of these young boys.

You can register online at or directly from ClubZap. Many thanks to all the volunteers for making this possible. Cost is €25 for one child, €40 for two €55 for three and €70 for four. Registration is now open.

The ladies club were very busy over the weekend with a double fundraiser. We thank all our wonderful volunteers for the contribution of their time to our bag pack and to Buckley’s SuperValu for facilitating our club. Without these volunteers it would not be possible. We also had an Easter raffle with winners The Corroon Family, Kevin Staunton, The Bohan Family and Seamus McNamee receiving their prizes from chief organiser Muriel Flynn. Thanks again to all that supported us in any way.

We would also like to give a special mention to the newest sponsor of the ladies’ club Home Instead. We were delighted to have a visit from their representative Lorraine McLaughlin this week. Their support is much appreciated.

LGFA Results

Our U14 girls kicked off their league campaign on Thursday of this week. Their opposition was St. Josephs of Streamstown. Despite the result the girls acquitted themselves very well and worked tirelessly against a very strong St. Josephs side. The final score was 0-12 to 2-01. Hard luck to our girls and well done to St. Josephs.

We extend our sincere sympathy to Thomas, Laura, James, Charlie and Anna Drumm on the recent passing of Laura’s mother Margaret Fagan late of Rathcolman, Mullingar.
