U14 Tournament

We were invited to Longford on Sunday morning to take part in the U14 Packie Joe Lynch 7-a-side tournament.10 teams participated in what was an excellently run tournament by the hosts Killoe Óg. The Downs were grouped with Dromard, Wolfe Tones, Killoe Óg & Northern Gaels. With 4 dominant displays, Na Dúnta topped the group and were paired against Clonguish for the Cup Final. Clonguish got off to a strong start and went into half time with a lead of 6 points. The Downs responded brilliantly in the second half to get back into contention but unfortunately we ran out of time and the minimum separated the teams at the final whistle. Congratulations to Clonguish on winning the Packie Joe Lynch Cup and to Killoe Óg for running an amazing tournament. We are very grateful for the invitation. Na Dúnta played excellent football throughout the day and should be very proud of themselves. Panel: Aaron Connaire, Adam Hughes, Adam Slevin Kiernan, Aidan Doyle, Aidan Tuite, Callum Cleary, Ciarán Casserly, Conor Cleary, Finn Brennan, Jake Raeside, Odhran McColgan, Sean Coleman.

LGFA

A busy week for the ladies’ club. Our U12 girls were in action on Tuesday evening against a strong Goldsmiths side. All girls on The Downs panel put in a very good performance on the night. Thanks to Goldsmiths for travelling.

The U14 girls got off to a winning start in the Division 4 championship. They travelled to Kinnegad on Thursday evening last to take on the hosts Coralstown Kinnegad. The girls put on a terrific performance showing great resilience to hold on for a two-point win against their opposition. Well done to every girl on the panel who all played their part. Final score was 2-07 to 3-06 in favour of The Downs.
