Underage Results

A good away win for the U17 boys over Athlone in the 4th round of the championship on Monday evening last. Following long spells of concentrated play in the first half, the lads had built up a commanding lead by half time. The lads kept the scoreboard ticking over in the second half denying Athlone the foothold they tried to gain in the game. Well done to all.

Both U13 teams were in action this week also. The Division 4 team had a convincing win over Lilliput Gaels in Division 4 at home on Thursday evening while Athlone came out winners in the Division 1 game on Friday evening in appalling weather conditions. Final score in that one was Athlone 4-10 to The Downs 3-08.

The U12 team were also in action in the Garrycastle tournament at home to St. Mary’s Rochfortbridge on Tuesday evening last. The lads turned in a fine performance to run out winners on the evening. Well done to all.

U17 Sponsorship

The Downs GAA Club are very grateful to Smyths of Killucan for their sponsorship contribution towards training tops for our U17 boys. The boys are busy preparing and playing championship matches and are looking well togged out in their new gear thanks to Ray and all at Smyths Killucan Mullingar. LGFA

The Senior Ladies picked up their third win in the Village Barn Senior Ladies championship on Wednesday evening last at home under lights against Killucan. On a final score-line of 3-10 to 0-6 the girls earned themselves another well-earned victory making it 3 from 3 in the opening rounds. Final score: The Downs 3-10 Killucan 0-6. Round 4 is scheduled for next Thursday away to St. Lomans.

The minor ladies travelled to Rosemount for their championship game versus Cill Óige last Tuesday. Another positive performance saw the girls pick up their second win in the championship. The Downs started the strongest with some fantastic scores giving themselves a 2-point lead at half time. A thrilling second half with some great scores from both sides however a last minute goal followed by a point from the resultant kick-out gave The Downs the edge. Final score The Downs 3-07 Cill Óige 3-05. Next up is Clann Gaels in 2 weeks’ time.
