Congratulations

The story of the week is none other than Westmeath’s impressive win in the Division 3 National League final against Down in Croke Park last Easter Saturday night. Two superbly taken goals from our very own Johnathan Lynam set Westmeath on their way to success with one of the goals assisted by another of our clubmen Luke Loughlin. We are delighted to be so well represented on the panel by no less than seven Downs men: Johnathan Lynam, Luke Loughlin, Charlie Drumm, Kevin O’Sullivan, Ciarán Nolan, Trevor Martin and Kitman Paddy Walsh. Congratulations to the lads and indeed the whole Westmeath team and management on a superb achievement. This win will no doubt boost confidence in their opening tie against Wicklow in the Leinster Championship next weekend.

Johnathan Lynam Johnathan Lynam’s week couldn’t have gotten any better having been named on the Sigerson Cup team of the year earlier in the week for his performances in the Sigerson competition for UCD throughout the year. He backed it up with two excellent goals in Croke Park showcasing his talent. Congratulations Johnathan. The Downs GAA Club are extremely proud.

Sympathy

The Downs GAA would like to send our sincere condolences to the family of Lynn Alagr late of Sundays Well Road, Mullingar who recently passed away. Lynn is remembered fondly in The Downs GAA club with her introduction and creation of a Strength and conditioning program for the club’s underage setup which was run over the Winter/Spring of 2012/2013. No doubt Lynn’s expertise in this area was the catalyst for success in the years that followed. May she rest in peace. Ar Dheis Dé go raibh a hanam.
