THE DOWNS GAA NOTES March 6th 2023

Men’s Round 3 League Results

On Saturday afternoon the Division 3 team were away to Mullingar Shamrocks. Despite their best efforts the lads finished on the wrong side of a 0-13 0-9 score-line. Hard luck to all.

On Sunday morning the Division 1 side travelled to Tyrellspass to contest the third round of the League in a very entertaining game of football. The Downs got off to a flying start scoring four goals in the first half. Tyrellspass rallied in the second half with two goals of their own coupled with a sending off for The Downs meant that only 2 points separated the two sides in the dying moments of the game. The Downs dug deep to maintain the two-point lead to end on a score-line of 4-05 to 2-09 at the final whistle.

There is a break in fixtures now for two weeks.

Underage Training Resumed

Underage training resumed last Saturday March 4th for all age-groups from nursery up to U12’s for boys and girls. Molloy Park was a hub of excitement for all our underage stars. It is great to be back in action for the 2023 season. Thanks to Laurie and Marie who were on duty in the cuppa hut providing refreshments for everyone in the grounds. Please note training will be on Saturdays for the month of March and will revert to Friday evenings in April.

Many thanks to all our underage coaches who were busy getting prepared for the new season this week with a Turas Player Pathway information night delivered by our GPO Jack Casey. A very informative and well attended event for the club.

Club gear can be purchased from Carmel during underage training in the Club Shop. We have a range of new items so why not come down and have a look!!
