LGFA Results
Our senior ladies Div 2 team overcame Coralstown/Kinnegad this week on a score-line of 4-13 to 3-12 in favour of The Downs to give themselves a chance of winning a Division 2 league title against St. Josephs with the date and time to be confirmed.
The seniors Division 3 side drew with Tyrellspass on a score-line of 2-07 apiece with their final game against Mullingar Shamrocks on Friday 31st in Springfield.
Our U16 girls had a great win on Tuesday evening against a strong Athlone side in overcast conditions. A great performance from our girls getting them off the mark in terms of wins in the league with every one of the panel playing their part. Final score The Downs 7-07 Athlone 5-07. Well done to all involved.
The Division 4 U14 team were in action this week against Goldsmiths at home on Thursday evening last. Despite the girls going up against each other only 24 hours previously in the Cumann na mBunscol final (Holy Family NS vs Loughegar), they showed teamwork and resilience to emerge as victors on the night. With a decent half-time lead the girls held on for the win on a 5-07 to 4-05.
Well done to our U12 girls who travelled to Tubberclair on Tueday evening for 2 great games of football. The girls fought hard with both teams putting in strong performances especially in the second half.
The U8/U10 girls were in Milltown on Saturday morning for the most recent Go Games blitz. Some great displays of football were on show against Milltown, St. Paul’s Delvin and Tyrellspass. Thanks to Milltown GAA for being wonderful hosts as usual.
Cumann na mBunscol Success
What a week of football Cusack Park has had in the last number of days with a plethora of finals, winners and losers, players of the match and a rollercoaster of emotions from all the footballers from around the county. We were immensely proud of all our members that took part and whether they won or lost they represented their schools, families and clubs with pride and distinction. We had representatives from as many as 6 schools during the week The Downs NS, Holy Family NS, St. Tolas NS, Rathwire NS, Loughegar NS and Gainstown NS. We would also like to congratulate Derek Butler Principal of The Downs NS on his involvement in the smooth running of events throughout the week. A hugely successful week of football for all in Westmeath.
