Saturday October 11thThe Downs v Shandonagh Kinnegad GAA at 11.30 am

What a phenomenal performance by our U14’s to claim the Division 1 championship final against a strongly fancied Athlone side last Sunday morning in Shandonagh GAA. The Downs lads gave a performance of resilience and fighting spirit, characteristics that are synonymous with The Downs club. The lads fought tooth and nail for every ball and got their just rewards for their efforts. At half time the score was 1-07 to 0-4, the goal coming from the boot of Cónal Murphy with Oisín Coyne kicking a sensational 2-pointer. The second half was a tight encounter. The Downs kept the Shannon siders at bay with a second goal, a superbly taken strike from Callum Cleary whilst keeping the point count ticking over throughout. Athlone engineered a goal of their own through Aodhán Fallon but they never managed to get ahead of the hard-working Na Dúnta boys. The final score was 2-11 to 1-07, a tremendous win for the black and ambers, no more than they deserved. The cup was presented to captain James Nea to rapturous applause from the supporting crowd. Many congrats to Ed Quinlan, Kieran Carroll, Cahal Kelly, Jasper Rijksen, Tommy Coyne and Lane Orme in what was a sensational win for their team. Congrats to all.  

Our U12’s will contest the re-scheduled Garrycastle shield Final on Monday evening against Mullingar Shamrocks in Garrycastle. All support greatly appreciated. 

Our U16 girls will contest the re-scheduled Division 3 county final this week against Mullingar Shamrocks. All details to be confirmed. Please keep an eye on our social media platforms for updates.

Our U8/U10 girls finished up their season with a brilliant evening of fun and games in Rock & Bowl. Huge thanks to all of our wonderful U8/U10 coaches for their time and effort this year. Special mention to the parents for their support to this wonderful bunch of girls. A hugely successful year for this group of players. 

Our Gaelic 4 Mothers & Others had another fabulous evening of football at home in Breedon Molloy Park this week. The ladies played a great game and most importantly had some great craic. Many thanks to Paul and Carley Kelly (The Downs Farm) for supplying the goodies afterwards. Gaelic 4 Mothers & Others continues every Wed eve at 8pm. Newcomers always welcome. Na Dúnta Gaelic 4 mothers & other's takes place every Wednesday (back middle pitch). No experience required, all fitness levels welcomed.
