The Junior B team lost out to Kilbeggan with a two-point deficit last week on a score-line of Kilbeggan 2-15 The Downs 1-15. Hard look to all. 

We are delighted and fortunate to be in a position to enter two U12 teams into Cusack Park Finals Day this weekend just gone. Our black team played Lilliput and our ambers played Garrycastle 2. Both games were really well contested and played in a competitive spirit. The black team won and ambers lost. Both games by the minimum margin so nice and competitive and wonderful experience for our u12s to play in headquarters. 

The U12’s were in action again on Friday. The division 2 team lost away v Maryland/Tang while our division 6 side won at home against Multy.

 

Both U14 squads were in hard luck last Wednesday. The Division 1 team lost by a goal to Tubberclair at home while our Division 6 lost comprehensively away to a very strong Kilbeggan side. 

 

The U16 panels had better luck on Monday last at home with both squads recording wins. The black squad v Coralstown/Kgad on a score-line of 5-09 to 3-07 while the ambers won well against St.Pauls/Delvin. Well done to all. 

 

Finally our minors completed the round of fixtures with a win last Thursday at home to Lilliput on a score-line of 4-15 to 2-14

 

We had a very kind gesture from continued supporters of the club – Buckley’s Supervalu providing a fabulous home cooked breakfast for our senior ladies in preparation for the Division 1 league final next Sunday.

 It takes place on Sunday July 19th V Milltown in Shandonagh GAA at 1 p.m. All support welcome

The senior ladies also conducted a bake sale last Friday evening in the beautiful sunshine in Breedon Molloy Park. Many thanks to all the organisers and helpers and mostly all that supported us in any way, shape or form. 

Commiserations to Westmeath Ladies on their defeat in the Intermediate All-Ireland semi-final last Sunday in Breffini Park against Roscommon GAA. Despite leading at half-time they unfortunately lost out with a late flourish from Roscommon by a margin of 4 points. As usual we are immensely proud of our representatives on the panel Lucy Power, Ellen Taite and Niamh Nolan.

The Downs GAA extends their sincere sympathy to U12 coach Stephen Bonner and his extended family on the recent passing of his baby niece Cora Curry in Australia.

We also send our condolences to Athlone GAA and the family of 15 year old Martin Greene who died tragically this week. We will keep you all in our thoughts and prayers.
