ACFL Round 6 Results
The Division 1 team had a tough assignment on Friday evening against a full strength Garrycastle side. Down by 1-08 to 0-06 at half time, it didn’t get any better in the second half with this group suffering their first loss of the league on a final score of Garrycastle 2-13 The Downs 0-11
Division 3 had a better outcome when they took on Kilbeggan on Saturday evening at home. Dan O’Callaghan was the hero of the night, kicking a long range 2 pointer to confirm the win. A superb win for the Division 3 side. Final score Kilbeggan 1-22 The Downs 2-20.
Underage Boys
The two U16 squads were in action this week in Div 1 and Div 5. Both took on St. Lomans at home with neither team coming out the right side. The Div 5 side were beaten whereas the Div 1 team took a share of the spoils.
Underage Girls results
Our U16 girls bounced back to winning ways this week with a comprehensive win at home to Ballycomoyle on Tuesday evening last.
U14 Div 4 lost by a point on Sunday evening in a tightly contested game v Clann Gaels. The visitors were a point to the good at the break. The Downs girls fought their way back to lead by 4 mid way through the 2nd half however Clann Gaels hit the net twice in succession to take the game by the narrowest of margins. Final Score Na Dúnta 4-8 Clann Gaels 5-6.
Scór Sinsir All – Ireland Final
The Downs were well represented at the Scór Sinsir All Ireland final this Saturday in Castlebar with Gráinne Ní Dhomhnaill taking part in amhránaíocht aonair and Shane Murray ,Cian Colgan Pat Leavy, Darren Nolan, Sophie Casey, Orlaith Murray, Ursula Carley and Andrea Coleman representing Na Dúnta in the Rince Seit. Despite fantastic performances in both events, it wasn't to be for Na Dúnta this year. Huge congratulations go to them and their mentors for representing the club, county and province with pride on the day.
Big Beats Bingo Fundraiser
The Downs Ladies LGFA are having a fundraiser on Saturday May 2nd in the clubhouse. A night of music and bingo and guaranteed fun on the night. Kicking off at 8 pm with entry fee of €20. Please see our social media platforms to purchase tickets.
