The Division 5 team suffered a defeat to Multy on Tuesday on a score-line of 4-10 to 2-10. Hard luck lads.

Our Senior Ladies Div 3 team put in an excellent performance on Friday evening against Moate. The ladies battled hard to come away with a share of the spoils.  

Our U16 girls continued their winning ways this week with a convincing win at home to Cill Óige on Tuesday evening last.

U14 Div 1 hosted Caulry on Tuesday evening also coming away with a solid victory. Well done to all.

What a week it has been for Westmeath football with the senior men booking their place in the Leinster final against Dublin in Croke Park on May 17th after a fighting performance against Kildare last Sunday afternoon in Tullamore. It took extra time for the lads to put the tie to bed but that they did with a never say die attitude leaving their bodies on the line to set up the Leinster final clash. Again we are immensely proud of our representatives on the squad with each and every one of them playing their part: Charlie Drumm, Kevin O’Sullivan, Ian Martin and of course not forgetting the role that Luke Loughlin and Jonathan Lynam have played in getting the team to this point in previous games. The news of Luke’s injury this week was a tough blow to take not only for the Westmeath side but ourselves here in The Downs also. Jonathan sustained a serious injury in a previous game ruling him out for some time. We would like to wish Luke and Jonathan every best wish with their recovery and hope to see them back playing football as soon as possible. 

Not to be outdone by the men, the Westmeath Ladies also qualified for the Leinster final last Saturday afternoon in emphatic fashion against Laois. They will now take on Wexford in the final in Newbridge. Again we were tremendously represented by Lucy Power, Niamh Nolan and Ellen Taite. Congratulations to all involved.

The Downs Ladies LGFA hosted a wonderful fundraiser on Saturday night last in the clubhouse. A night full of music and bingo and fun. Many thanks to all the organisers who did a fantastic job. We would also like to thank all the sponsors of raffle prizes and all that contributed, bought tickets or supported in any way.

We send our sincere condolences to the extended Raleigh family on the sad passing of Jimmy Raleigh, Hill of Down earlier this week.
